Project 1: Editorial Illustration
This assignment was an editorial illustration for a real article. My article was “How to Evacuate a 300-pound Pig” by the New York Times. It is the story of how Oliver, a 300 lb pot-bellied house pig was rescued in the neighbor’s pickup truck from the LA fires. At the time the article was written, he resided at an equestran center, hence the horses in some of the sketches. The final drawing is done with pen and alcohol markers.
Project 2: Book Cover
This assignment was to paint a cover for a favorite book, but it couldn’t be similar to any cover done before for that particular book. I chose “If We Were Villains” by M. L. Rio, since it is a favorite of mine, and only has 4 existing covers. I had a very clear idea in my head for what I wanted to portray, but struggled to get the lighting and composition realistic. However, I am very happy with my end result after digitally tweaking the acrylic painting.
Project 3: Comic Strip
This assignment was to make a 1-page front and back comic, so as to apply and show our knowledge of the textbook. It did not have to be an original story, so I chose to illustrate the opening scene from the book “Vicious” by V. E. Schwab
